Overview

Cynthia Chaplin works for Vinitaly International Academy (VIA) and is a host of the Italian Wine Podcast, a daily podcast, on Wednesdays, with topics such as diversity in the wine sector, market trends, sustainability, packaging trends.

Cynthia talks us through the qualifications offered by VIA starting with the one day foundation course and Maestro course.

The Wine Ambassador course is the most advanced and intensive, needing at least WSET Level 3, Italian Wine Scholar or equivalent or to be working with Italian wines within the industry.

For the first time the Italian Wine Ambassador certification course will be held in London at the Institute of Masters of Wine, led by Sarah Heller MW. They are also running the course on the same dates in Rust, Austria.

The course dates are 27th, 28th and 29th July in London/Austria plus c. 30-40 hours of the online theory course in the run up to the 3 days of tasting in-person. There are 36 wines to taste overall. The exam is in 3 parts, comprising a blind tasting exam, 100 multi-choice questions and short written answer questions - the exams are marked on the same day and results given at the end of the final day.
